Our boys love blowing out candles on their birthday cakes. Many times there is a whole gang of kids all blowing with the birthday boy. So much magic happening in their minds you can almost see the sparkles fly out of their heads. It’s one of those moments you want to capture in your heart to remember when you’re ninety years old.
So today, as I think about what I will wish for when I blow
out the candles I have two thoughts. One, that I have been so blessed to have
had so many wishes come true. (Sage, our two month old baby girl, sleeps across
my lap as I type this.)
Two, I’m wondering why is it that wishes are saved for
birthdays, falling stars, or pennies in a fountain? Yes, I know there are a few others but the point
I’m feeling is that wishes are too important to only be made at certain times.
Wishes should be an everyday opportunity. Magic year round, for many years to
come.
And, they need to be believed in, like we did when we were
kids. We need to feel as if they have happened at the swish of the candlelight.
What would the wish look like, feel like, smell like, sound like, taste like?
What would everyone involved do and say and feel? It really is imagining
something into reality. And it really can happen.
I have a wish for today. In fact, I have a few wishes. Ones
that I will make tomorrow, too – I just won’t need the candles.
